The Eternal Flame went out at the military memorial in Chisinau after the failure of gas negotiations with the Russian Federation

According to journalists, negotiations between Russia and Moldova with the participation of Kozak on gas ended in vain.

In Moldova, due to the gas crisis, there was a temporary shutdown of the supply of blue fuel to the Eternal Flame at the Memorial of Military Glory in Chisinau.

According to Interfax, with reference to the Moldovan Ministry of Defense, the agency asked the Chisinau-Gas company to turn off the gas at the Eternal Flame due to a decrease in pressure due to a decrease in pressure in the gas supply pipes, as well as due to strong wind, which is able to extinguish the fire.

The ministry recalled the emergency regime introduced from October 22 to November 20 by the Parliament of Moldova due to the situation in the energy sector.

Thus, the Ministry of Defense is confident that it is necessary to avoid a gas leak that could threaten security.

“The fire will remain extinguished until the resolution of the gas crisis”, – the Ministry of Defense of Moldova said in a statement.

At the moment, the gas supply to the Eternal Flame in Chisinau has been restored. This is reported by the Moldova 1 TV channel with reference to the country’s Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa.

According to her, the gas supply was restored within a few hours after the shutdown, and she called the situation with the shutdown a technical error, stressing that the Eternal Flame should not relate to the calls of the country’s leadership to save gas.

Against this background, it became known about the inconclusive completion of two-day gas talks between Russia and Moldova with the participation of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, an informed source writes to RIA Novosti.

He noted that the Russian Federation offered a 25% discount, and for this Moldova needs to repay the accumulated debt of about $700 million within three years, and these payments do not take into account fuel supplied to Transnistria.

However, Chisinau insisted on a 50% discount and pointed out the lack of funds.

“Historical debt is a very large debt that we do not recognize. We don’t think it should be part of the gas contract negotiations. This is a topic for a separate conversation, it should be discussed in a different context,” Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilica said on Moldova 1. She is quoted by RIA Novosti.

Recall that from October 1, 2021, Gazprom extended the contract with Chisinau for the supply of gas for a month, and the price at the same time increased to $790 per 1000 cubic meters.

Earlier, topNews wrote that Russia has put forward an EU demand for gas supplies. In this regard, it became known about the details of gas supplies via Nord Stream-2.
