Ukraine offered the EU an alternative to the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov made a statement according to which the country is ready to increase the capacity of gas transit from Russia to Europe.
He said that the system allows for the transit of large volumes of natural gas, especially in the current crisis period.
He suggested that the EU countries develop special conditions for the transit of additional volumes of gas through Ukraine, and not less than 55 billion cubic meters per year.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky made a proposal to provide Gazprom with a 50% discount on gas transit to Europe in excess of the figures stipulated in the contracts.
“Considering the current transit tariff, the discount will be, as I assume, 50%”, – he said.
Recall that Vladimir Putin previously spoke about the advantages of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. According to him, the supply of natural gas through the new system is 5.6 times more environmentally friendly than when supplied through Ukraine.
“Movement along the bottom of the Baltic Sea generally occurs without any emissions ”, – noted the President of Russia.
