Five EU countries urged to investigate the causes of the record jump in gas prices

Putin called the situation with gas prices in the EU hysteria and confusion.

Five EU countries – France, Spain, Czech Republic, Romania and Greece – issued a joint statement.

In their address, the states announced the decision to conduct an investigation into the causes of the record increase in gas prices in Europe.

As Bloomberg journalist Javier Blas writes on Twitter, the countries also called for the development of common rules regarding the volume of gas reserves to mitigate price spikes.

The States also proposed to increase negotiating positions by strengthening coordination, reform the electricity market in Europe and pointed to the need for energy independence by diversifying the energy supply industry and reducing Europe’s dependence on countries exporting blue fuel.

Against this background, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the situation with gas prices in Europe hysteria and confusion.

He pointed out the need for sustainable development of the energy sector, and also drew attention to the underestimated, in his opinion, the problem of climate change.

“You see what is happening in Europe, there is hysteria and some kind of confusion in the markets, – the president said during a meeting with the government.

He said that it is necessary to switch to alternative energy sources smoothly, and Russia has every opportunity not to make such mistakes.

“We see what certain unbalanced decisions, unbalanced development and sharp shies lead to, – he said.

Recall that in recent weeks, the cost of gas has sharply increased in Europe.

At the beginning of August, securities for the supply of fuel were trading at about $515 per 1,000 cubic meters, then a month later prices rose to $614, and at the end of September they doubled.

Earlier, topNews wrote that the first line of the Nord Stream-2 is being filled with gas.

After this news, there was a sharp change in prices for natural gas in Europe.
