Italy has been protesting for several months. Local farmers took to the streets after fuel for agricultural machinery and fertilizers sharply jumped in price.
A severe drought has added fuel to the fire – an emergency regime was introduced in five regions of the country in July. And farmers have to spend their last savings.
According to media reports, protesters were chanting in Italy: “We can’t feed our children!”.
Before the Italians, Dutch farmers came out to protest. There, the government decided to reduce nitrogen emissions by 70% – because of this, it will be necessary to use less fertilizers, reduce the number of livestock by a third. Most farms will not survive this.
“We are not slaves, we cannot make ends meet!”, – people chant.
Protest actions are also taking place in Poland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Farmers are blocking roads with tractors. In Italy, they demand the resignation of Prime Minister Mario Draghi – only the day before the president of the country accepted his resignation.
Earlier strikes across Europe took place in ports, aviation, oil and gas industry.
