The head of the European Commission announced the EU's refusal to pay in rubles for Russian gas

The EC decision was supported by the Prime Minister of Slovenia.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a statement about Russian gas supplies to European countries.

According to her, the EU leadership will not allow paying for gas in Russian rubles.

According to Reuters, Leyen called such a financial scenario an attempt to circumvent the sanctions that were previously imposed on Russia by the EU.

She found the option of circumventing restrictive measures unacceptable.

“We will not allow our restrictions to be circumvented,” the EC chairwoman said.

Recall, as Topnews wrote earlier, on March 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that payments to unfriendly countries would be made in rubles, thus Russia abandoned the previously “compromised” currencies of other states.

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansha also spoke in support of Leyen’s statement, who is confident that Europe will not accept a ruble payment.
