Due to a decrease in the number of subscribers, Netflix shares fell by 25.7%.
The popular streaming service Netflix has lost 200 thousand subscribers.
Such a rapid drop in the audience occurred in the period from January to March 2022 and was the first such on its scale since 2011. Such information is provided by the company in its report.
According to Interfax, one of the main reasons for the collapse of the Netflix audience was the departure of the service from Russia.
As a result, the platform was left without 700 thousand subscribers. The service also lost users from the USA and Canada due to price increases.
If we do not take into account the number of unsubscribed users, the net influx of new users during the reporting period amounted to 500 thousand new customers.
In total, in the first quarter of 2022, the number of paid subscribers of the service amounted to 221.64 million, which is 200 thousand subscribers less compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.
Due to a decrease in the number of paid subscribers, Netflix shares collapsed by 25.7%.
Now the platform intends to create a cheaper version of its service, where there will be advertising.
As Bloomberg notes, the author of the idea was the CEO of the company Reed Hastings.
Additional details are not given, but the American agency calls this step a big change for the service for Netflix.
Recall that Netflix left Russia amid a special operation in Ukraine.
Earlier, topNews wrote that the Russians demanded compensation from Netflix. Residents of the Russian Federation intend to sue a total of 60 million rubles from the service.
