Media: The German Ministry of Finance wants to nationalize part of the Nord Stream 2

The analyst Stanislav Mitrakhovich commented on the reports about Germany’s plans.

The German Finance Ministry intends to nationalize the part of the Russian gas pipeline “Nord Stream-2” laid on the territory of Germany.

Spiegel writes about this with reference to informed sources.

According to journalists, the pipes will be needed to pump gas from floating LNG terminals.

Prior to that, RWE AG chartered two similar installations. They allow us to supply up to 14 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

A negative consequence, according to the publication, will be the reaction of Moscow and Russian President Vladimir Putin to these actions of Berlin.

Also, a new environmental agreement is needed for this, since the territory where the pipes pass is protected, and any change in the route needs additional assessment.

The publication notes the need to take into account the opinion of German business representatives who hope for the start of work of Nord Stream-2.

Others note that Russia may respond to the nationalization of the SP-2 by seizing German factories on its territory.

Germany is discussing such plans against the background of concerns about the stoppage of gas supplies from Russia: gas transit along the Nord Stream has more than halved, and next month the pipe will be closed for two weeks for maintenance.

Against this background, expert Stanislav Mitrakhovich said that as a response to the nationalization of Nord Stream 2, Russia could indeed nationalize a number of German assets.

“We live in conditions when nationalization has become the norm in relations between Russia and the West. It can take place with the payment of compensation, without payment, in the format of a temporary freezing of assets, all sorts of options are possible, he said in an interview with RT.

He is sure that these measures will not help to force not to reduce supplies to Europe.

Mitrakhovich noted that Gazprom needs to carry out maintenance of the gas pipeline. In addition, it is necessary to return the turbines necessary for pumping from Canada, and for this it is necessary to lift part of the sanctions of the collective West.

Earlier, topNews wrote that Germany said it was impossible to approve the SP-2.

This position was taken by Berlin in December last year.
