The UK has imposed sanctions against Aeroflot, VTB and Rostec
Against the background of the situation in Ukraine, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the imposition of sanctions against the Russian VTB bank with the freezing of assets of about 100 legal entities and individuals.
The airline “Aeroflot” was also sanctioned. Thus, the British regulator in the field of civil aviation has banned the Russian airline from flying to and from the UK until further notice.
In addition, Britain imposes a ban on the export of high-tech products to Russia. Among other things, such companies as Rostec, UAC, USC and Uralvagonzavod were included in the sanctions lists, TASS reports.
In addition, according to Johnson, the UK will ban companies from Russia from trading in dollars and pounds.
Britain also imposed restrictions on the amount of money that Russians can keep in British accounts (no more than 50 thousand pounds).
Johnson also insists on disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT international payment system, but so far the EU has not made a consolidated decision.
The British prime minister added that all the sanctions imposed today are aimed at weakening the Russian economy.
The main decision that will deal a serious blow to Russia is the refusal of the European Union from Russian gas and oil, thanks to which Putin gained serious power over Western politics, Johnson explained.
It is worth noting that it was after Johnson’s statement that there was a sharp drop in VTB shares (by 42%) and Aeroflot. In addition, the shares of “Sberbank” collapsed by 72% on the London Stock Exchange.
VTB has already assured that the banking system was ready for sanctions, as several counteraction plans had already been worked out.
Earlier, Topnews wrote that the EU published a list of more than 300 Russians who were sanctioned due to the recognition of the DPR and the LPR, which included, among others, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu, TV journalist Vladimir Solovyov, and RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan.
